Description:
The Brighter Futures Coalition of St. John’s and District Inc. promotes the healthy birth, growth, and development of young children from birth to age 6. The Coalition offers programs in St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Paradise, and on Bell Island, in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, community centres, Health and Community Services, St. John’s Region, schools, the City of Mount Pearl; and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Together, the partners offer community-based programming to help parents meet their own needs and the needs of their children. Programs and services include play groups, pregnancy-support programs, parenting programs and workshops, computer and written literacy programs, baby groups, and peer-support groups.

Description:
Burin Peninsula Brighter Futures Inc. has established a variety of programs promoting healthy child development along the southeast coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. They offer a variety of structured activities and drop-in play to families in ten communities on the Burin Peninsula: Grand Bank, Marystown, Burin, Lamaline, Lawn, St. Lawrence, Bay L’Argent, St. Bernard’s, Terrenceville, and Grand Le Pierre.
Activities include support groups, a toy, book and resource library, and workshops on parenting, board development, conflict resolution, and creative play. During the summer months, The Outdoor Playroom moves drop-in play to the great outdoors.

The Community Action Committee for Southwestern Newfoundland Inc. has established a complete range of programs to promote the well-being of young children in the region. Programs are offered through the main family resource centre in Stephenville and in centres throughout southwestern Newfoundland.
These sites provide a variety of health, educational, recreational, and social-development programs and services for young children and their families, including drop-in play, pre-kindergarten readiness, support groups, parenting programs, toy lending libraries, and workshops to encourage participant involvement and ownership.

The North Shore Early Childhood Association Inc. promotes the well-being of young children on the north shore of the Bay of Islands in western Newfoundland and Labrador. Residents participate in a wide variety of programs in five communities along an approximately 40 km coastline: Cox’s Cove, Meadows, Irishtown, McIvers, and Summerside.
Programs and services identified by the community include drop-in play, education, parenting and skills workshops, health and safety seminars, and resource and toy libraries. The centres are staffed by the program coordinator, three CAPC resource workers, an administrative assistant, and one resource mom for the Healthy Baby Club.

Description:
The Exploits Valley Community Coalition Inc. promotes the well-being of young children in central Newfoundland and Labrador with programs at four family resource centres: two in Grand Falls-Windsor and one each in Peterview and Botwood. The Coalition also provides resources and training to parents who maintain regular programs at six sites in coastal communities of Notre Dame Bay.
The Coalition offers a variety of services designed to meet the needs and priorities of local families, including play groups, mobile outreach, parenting programs, support groups, a toy lending library, and a variety of workshops and seminars. Employees include the executive director, program coordinator, outreach coordinator, three early childhood workers, and a prenatal program facilitator for the Healthy Baby Club.

Organization for Community Action Initiatives Inc. has developed a full range of programs to promote the well-being of young children. Programs are offered through the main family resource centre in Dunfield Park and through outreach sites at St. Mary’s Church in Curling, All Hallow’s Church in Humbermouth, and at Hilltop and Farmdale Road Community Centres in Corner Brook.
The services offered by the organization include drop-in play, support groups, parenting programs, clothing exchange, pregnancy support, toy lending libraries, community kitchens, and a variety of workshops and courses.
Project staff include the project coordinator, an early childhood education coordinator, a community worker, two early childhood educators, and an administrative assistant. Prenatal nutrition program (CPNP) staff, including a resource mother and an assistant, also work out of the Dunfield Park centre.

Description:
Fortune Bay North Family Resource Committee promotes healthy child development on the eastern part of the Connaigre Peninsula offering programs through the main family resource centre in Belleoram and two outreach centres at Pool’s Cove and English Harbour West. The Committee also operates an outreach site in Rencontre East, an isolated community at the head of Fortune Bay accessible only by boat or small aircraft.
The project sponsors a variety of programs and services designed to strengthen and support families. These include peer support groups, respite care, drop-in play groups, parenting workshops, child safety and injury prevention, book bag programs, a toy lending library, and a clothing repair and exchange. Employees include the project coordinator, three early childhood workers, and one resource mom for the Healthy Baby Club.
Gander Bay Community Action Program for Children

Description:
The Gander Bay Community Action Program for Children Inc. promotes the well-being of young children on the east side of Notre Dame Bay. Programs are offered at six locations in the Gander Bay area: the Riverwood Academy in Wing’s Point, the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Unit at Rodger’s Cove, the Salvation Army Church Hall in Horwood, Ridgewood Academy in Stoneville, Hillview Academy in Norris Arm, and a new location in Carmanville.
Children and their parents are involved in a wide variety of programs and services offered at these sites, including drop-in play, an information and toy library, a book bag program, health and nutrition programs, a clothing repair and exchange, and workshops on parenting, leadership, communication, interview skills, coalition building, and community development. Staff consists of the coordinator, three early childhood educators, and a resource mom for the Healthy Baby Club.

The Trinity-Conception Family Resource Program Inc. promotes the well-being of young children in Bay Roberts, Carbonear, Green’s Harbour, Winterton, Old Perlican and Upper Island Cove. The goal of the project is to enable families to provide quality care and guidance for their children. Programs include drop-in play, support groups, community kitchens, and parent education workshops. Parent participation in this project is high with parents acting as group leaders, serving on parent committees, volunteering as board members, and interacting with children in all activities.
